State v. P.X. (Washington County 2013)
The client was facing a DWI charge. She was eager to avoid a conviction because Canada makes it very hard for Americans with DWIs to cross the border. For her, this would be catastrophic, because she and her husband, a Canadian citizen, made an annual trip to visit his family there. Despite a high test result, I convinced the prosecutor to allow the client to plead to careless driving, avoiding the DWI conviction that would have separated his client from her family.
